Location
Qingcheng Mountain (青城山), ~65 km from central Chengdu. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Chinese Taoism.
Move with the mountain. Flow like water. Know the Way.
Qingcheng Mountain is not just a beautiful place. It is the birthplace of organized Taoism in China — the site where Zhang Daoling founded the first Taoist sect nearly 2,000 years ago. Every path here is a teaching. Every tree is a scripture.
Over two days, you practice Tai Chi and Qigong in the mornings with mist still covering the bamboo, receive lectures on Taoist philosophy in the afternoon, and walk among temples that have been carved into the mountain since the Han Dynasty.
Taoism is not a religion of belief. It is a practice of alignment — with nature, with your body, and with the flow of existence.
The classical 24-form Yang-style Tai Chi, taught step by step over two mornings at dawn on the mountain platform overlooking the bamboo valley.
Standing meditation and breath cultivation. Learn to feel, gather, and circulate qi (vital energy) through the body. Even beginners often feel immediate effects.
Guided study of selected passages from Laozi's Tao Te Ching with a resident Taoist priest. Not an academic lecture — a living conversation about how to apply this wisdom today.
A guided walk through the ancient Taoist temples of Qingcheng Mountain. Each temple teaches something different. Each hall has a different deity, a different atmosphere, a different teaching.
"Water does not fight the rock. It goes around. This is the deepest Tai Chi lesson."
Priest Qinghe has lived and practiced on Qingcheng Mountain for 25 years. Initiated into the Longmen lineage of the Complete Reality school of Taoism, he is a rare practitioner who can make the most abstract Taoist concepts feel immediately applicable to ordinary life.
He has taught Tai Chi and Qigong to hundreds of foreign visitors, and is beloved for his patience, his humor, and his ability to demonstrate transformation rather than just describe it.
"Most people come here thinking Taoism is complicated," he says with a smile. "They leave realizing it was always this simple. They were the complicated part."
Each morning begins on the open platform of Qingcheng Mountain, where mist rises from the valley below and the bamboo is still wet with dew.
The 24-form Yang-style sequence. Slow, flowing, meditative. Every movement a conversation between heaven and earth.
Ba Duan Jin and Zhan Zhuang. Cultivate internal energy, improve health, and learn to feel what classical texts call "qi."
Different from Buddhist zazen — Taoist sitting focuses on inner alchemy, circulating energy, and resting in the natural state.
Action through non-action. Effortless effort. Stop forcing — begin flowing.
Naturalness. The way of being that requires no performance, no pretense.
All opposites are one. Light contains dark. Rest contains action. Knowing this is freedom.
The Way that underlies all things. You cannot grasp it. But you can stop blocking it.
Tai Chi begins at sunrise, on the open mountain terrace. The mist, the silence, the bamboo — this is the classroom.
Accommodation in a traditional guesthouse on or near Qingcheng Mountain. Clean, comfortable, and immersed in nature.
Complete beginners are welcome and expected. The practice adjusts to your body. Age and fitness level are not barriers.
One full afternoon walking Qingcheng Mountain's ancient Taoist temples with your guide, who knows their every secret.
A traditional Taoist tea sharing at the end of practice each day. The perfect integration of body, mind, and spirit.
Bilingual certificate of Tai Chi and Qigong practice, hand-stamped by Priest Qinghe with the Longmen lineage seal.
